Kolkata: Cricketing legend Kapil Dev on Wednesday welcomed the idea of a players' association in India but said that so far he did not envisage any role for himself in it.
"It's a good idea. I definitely feel that the Indian cricketers should have it," Kapil Dev told reporters. Kapil, named Wisden's Indian cricketer of the last century, said the proposed forum could take care of the various off-the-field happenings affecting the players. "Issues like the controversial contract problem (which rocked the cricketing world before last month's Championship trophy in Sri Lanka) can be tackled by the association leaving the players free to concentrate totally on the game," the former star all rounder, who led India to World Cup glory in 1983, said. Kapil, however, said that he had no intention to involve himself in the association now. "I'm just sitting and watching," he said with a smile. Extras:
