Rao, Verma help Andhra score 262/7; K'taka piles 321/5

Chennai: A 95 run third wicket partnership between K Srinivasa Rao (42) and A S K Verma (48) helped Andhra Pradesh score 262 runs for the loss of seven wickets against Tamil Nadu, while Karnataka piled up 321 runs, losing five wickets, against Goa on the opening day in the Ghulam Ahmed under-19 cricket tournament.

Andhra Pradesh won the toss and elected to bat. Besides Rao and Verma, G Sankara Rao struck a fine 37 off 45 balls, with eight hits to the fence. An unbroken eighth wicket 86 run partnership between B Srivardhan (33 not out) and S Kaja Moideen (35 not out) also helped Andhra to a great extent. For the hosts, Tamil Kumaran grabbed two wickets for 47 runs, while R Venkatesh had figures of 2 for 48. In the Karnataka-Goa match, the former piled up 321 runs for the loss of five wickets in 90 overs, helped by a 206-run first wicket partnership between Nidhuvan (161) and Nidesh (87) in 62.4 overs. Stuart Binny scored a quick fire 52 off 59 balls. For Goa, Adhitya Angle claimed three wickets for 42 runs.
