White does star turn as Yorkshire enters ODI Trophy final

London: England all-rounder Craig White starred with both bat and ball as Yorkshire booked its place in the Trophy final thanks to a crushing 10-wicket victory over Surrey at Headingley on Sunday.

Medium-fast bowler White first took four for 35 as Surrey was held to 173 for eight before his 100 not out guided Yorkshire to its Duckworth/Lewis winning score of 167 in a rain-affected fixture. Matthew Wood was 57 not out. White struck one six and 16 fours in his 78-ball stay - a pleasant way to warm-up for the second Test against India at Trent Bridge on Thursday where he has retained his squad place and seems likely to play after useful contributions to England's series-opening win at Lord's. Earlier England exile Mark Ramprakash's grinding 63 had seemingly given Surrey a defensible total when batting conditions were at their most testing. The visitors' innings was four-times interrupted by rain, which was no surprise given what had happened earlier in the week. This match should have been played on Wednesday. But rain meant no play was possible then or on the two scheduled reserve days that followed. With both sides down to play One-day league matches on the Saturday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) took the unprecedented step of allowing this additional reserve day in a bid to prevent this key fixture being decided by a bowl-out. Yorkshire will face defending champion Somerset in the final of the Trophy, England's senior One-day competition, at Lord's on Saturday, August 31.
