Indore: Congratulatory messages flooded 'Ali Manzil', house of legendary cricketer Mushtaq Ali in the city after he was honoured with Wisden special achievement award in London on Tuesday.
"The atmosphere is like Id in our house," a proud Gulfam, son of Mushtaq said while personally acknowledging the congratulations. The ambience at the residence of Mushtaq, the first Indian cricketer to score a century on foreign soil in 1936, was festive as accolades poured in from all quarters. "It is a great achievement for him at the age of 90 and we are really happy," said Gulfam adding they were expecting him to reach here on August 1 or 2. "Mushtaq played a memorable innings of 112 runs in a partnership of 203 with Vijay Merchant at Old Trafford in 1936," said former cricketer Chandu Sarvate recalling Mushtaq's historic knock. "The award conferred on Mushtaq is a great news for the country, especially for the denizens of Indore," Sarvate added. Chandra Naidu, daughter of cricket doyen late Col C K Naidu and first women cricket commentator said, "We are very happy and feeling proud that even at this age someone can get such a great award."
