Onus on PCB to sort out Kenya series mess: Australia

Sydney: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is responsible for sorting out any administrative problems involved in organising the triangular One-day series in Kenya, the Australian Cricket Board (ACB) said on Wednesday.

The tri-series, rescheduled for August 29-September 7, appeared to be in serious doubt amid controversy surrounding the Kenyan Cricket Association (KCA), which is responsible for managing cricket in Kenya. Kenyan Minister of Sport Francis Nyenze wants the National Sports Council and a caretaker committee to run the tournament. Nyenze dissolved the Kenyan cricket governing body on May 17 amid allegations of financial mismanagement. However, the High Court in Nairobi has since overturned the minister's decision and reinstated elected officials. A top KCA official said on Wednesday, "We are legally in office and the PCB must only deal with us." Pakistan, still seen as the series hosts, was forced to switch the event to Kenya after Australian concerns over security in the Islamic nation. An ACB spokesman said Australian officials were aware of the latest reports but were waiting for advice from the Pakistan Board. "We are a aware of the reports that are in circulation. However, it's a matter for the Pakistan Cricket Board," the ACB said. "It's Pakistan's series and we're awaiting advice from the PCB." The ACB is continuing to carry out investigations into the suitability of Kenya as an international cricket venue. The Kenyan tournament was to be a valuable lead-up to the ICC's Champions Trophy One-day tournament in Sri Lanka in September.
