Kolkata: Continuing his good work for daughters of the leprosy affected, Australian Test skipper Steve Waugh will visit the city yet again on July 22 to select a suitable plot for a fresh philanthropic venture. The celebrated cricketer had earlier sponsored setting up of the girl's wing of 'Udayan' (sunrise), a home for children of leprosy sufferers, near the city at Barrackpore. This time around, soon after his arrival, Waugh would be closeted with some voluntary organisations to finalise the location of the new home to be christened 'Udyan' (garden). "Two spots have been initially short listed. The final decision will be taken in consultation with Steve," Calcutta Foundation chairperson Shamlu Dudeja, who was instrumental in getting Waugh associated with Udayan, told reporters. The Aussie cricketer would go to Udayan on July 23 to spend some time with the children before leaving the city. Waugh's association with Udayan began in 1998 when he visited the home in July and raised funds through auction dinners for the girls' hostel. Back in Australia, he roped in sponsors and also shipped folding cots and other materials. He organised another fund raiser during his second charity-related visit to the city in April 2000 and laid the foundation stone for the project, which has been completed. On both occasions, 'Uncle Steve' mingled freely with the tiny inmates and even played cricket with them. He also took time off during the Indo-Aussie test here last year and played a floral holi with the children. "But so far we haven't decided on holding any fund raisers during his coming trip," Dudeja said.
