Bangalore: Karnataka Home Department on Monday sought a report from Mysore police following reports that leading cricketer Javagal Srinath was ill-treated at a police station at Mysore where he had gone to lodge a complaint.
"We have sought a report from Mysore police commissioner," Home Minister M Mallikarjuna Kharge told reporters. "We will take action if there is a recommendation to suspend the concerned police officer." Reports from Mysore said the right-arm fast bowler had a bitter experience and was allegedly treated rudely by a police inspector at Kuvempunagar, where he had gone to file a complaint after he lost his RC book on Sunday. Srinath who hails from Mysore, reports said, was "nastily" treated and allegedly addressed in singular by the police inspector. But Mysore police commissioner Chandrashekar when contacted by telephone, strongly refuted the charges and said Srinath himself called him up saying that newspaper reports were wrong, and he would issue a denial. Srinath, who recently announced his retirement from Test cricket, was not available for comment. Chandrashekar said Srinath was politely told by the inspector that an affidavit needed to filed along with the complaint and was given a patient hearing.
