ICC confirms development committee meeting in Pak

Islamabad: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed a meeting of its development committee to be held in Pakistan during October, an official said on Monday.

"ICC has confirmed to us that its cricket development committee meeting will be held in Pakistan on October 20 and 21," Asian Cricket Council development manager Zakir Hussain Syed said. The venue of the meeting will either be Lahore or Islamabad. Foreign teams have shown reservations in touring the violence-hit country and if the game's governing body holds the meeting as scheduled, it will be the first assembly of cricket's international delegates in Pakistan. The ICC had to shift its executive committee meeting from Lahore to Malaysia shortly after the September 11 terror attacks in the United States. In May, New Zealand cut short its tour of Pakistan after a suicide bomb blast outside its hotel in Karachi, which killed 14 people, including 11 French naval engineers. Australia's two tours to Pakistan - in August-September for a tri-nation series also involving New Zealand, and a Test tour in October - are set to be shifted to neutral venues due to security fears. "ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed will chair the meeting in which major development issues of the game will be discussed," Syed said. Syed, a former secretary of the ACC, said the formal handing over of the ACC reins will take place in Pakistan next month. "Pakistan has given the reins of the ACC to Bangladesh and Bangladesh Cricket Board president Ali Asgher will come to Pakistan and would be formally handed over the post," he said. The annual general meeting of the ACC was held in London last week. "ACC's development budget of $ 3.2 million was approved in the meeting but a decision of who will serve as chief executive of the ACC in its permanent headquarter in Kuala Lumpur will be taken later," he said. All four Test playing countries of Asia have submitted their nominations for the post. Pakistan Cricket Board's outgoing director Brigadier Munawwar Rana, Bangladesh's Ashraful Haq, India's Amrit Mathur and Sri Lanka's Bandula Warnapura are the four candidates for the ACC chief executive post.
