Bangalore: Michael Vaughan, who made his Test debut against South Africa at Johannesburg in 1999-00, missed the opportunity of scoring his first double century in Test cricket when he was dismissed for 197 against India in the second Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on August 10, 2002.

Vaughan opened the innings with debutant Robert Key, stayed at the crease for a marathon 356 minutes facing 258 balls and probably lost his concentration and succumbed to a casual shot by edging a catch to Parthiv Patel off Ajit Agarkar.

For Patel too this was a memorable moment as he took his first catch after having the distinction of becoming the youngest wicket-keeper in the world on the opening day of the Test when he made his debut.

Vaughan has now scored 297 runs in three innings for an average of 99.00 in the nPower Test series. He had started the series with a duck in his first innings at Lord's and followed it by a century in the second innings.

Vaughan became the ninth Englishman to be dismissed for scores between 190 and 199. Incidentally he becomes the first Englishman to be dismissed in this fashion against India.

There have been 37 instances involving 33 players in which scores of 190s have been recorded. Frank Worrell, Everton Weekes (both West Indies), Ian Chappell (Australia) and Mohamed Azharuddin (India) are the only players to be dismissed TWICE for scores in between 190 and 199 in Tests.

The details are as under:
