Kolkata: Former BCCI president Raj Singh Dungarpur, one-time bitter critic of Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly, was on Firday all praise for Kolkata's prince, saying he should be retained as captain for the next three years.
"He (Saurav) is an excellent captain," Dungarpur said, adding that Ganguly had transformed the Indian team into a fighting outfit. Admitting that once he had been a bitter critic of Ganguly, the former BCCI chief said he had reversed his opinion about him. Describing Ganguly as the best man manager of Indian cricket, he said, "Cricket captaincy is all about man management and batting, bowling, fielding come later." "If you seek my opinion, I will say that let Saurav remain the skipper for the next three years. However, I feel that Pataudi was the all-time best captain of Indian cricket team," he said. To a question about Mohammad Azharuddin, Dungarpur said it was unfortunate that his cricket career had come to a stop after he played 99 tests. "I feel sorry for him. He was a wonderful batsman. But his complicity in match-fixing has not been proved." Extras:
