London: The Trophy semi-final between Yorkshire and Surrey has been rescheduled for Sunday after three days of persistent rain meant no play was possible at Headingley.
The match was due to be played on Wednesday with two reserve days scheduled in case of bad weather. But after rain had prevented even a minimum 10 over per side match being played on Friday the decision was taken to try again in 48 hours at Yorkshire's headquarters. By the time Headingley was declared unfit Friday moving the fixture to another ground, a possibility that had been under discussion, was no longer an option. Under tournament rules the result of the semi-final could have been decided by a bowl-out but the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) wants the fixture decided in conventional fashion if at all possible. "The ECB does not usually create extra reserve days for cup games, but in the circumstances, with so much time before the final at Lord's on Saturday, August 31 and with both teams available to play on Sunday, it was considered a better option than concluding the tie with a bowl-out," a statement issued by the ECB on Friday said. "If the weather prevents any play on Sunday, however, a bowl-out will be conducted." On Thursday, defending champion Somerset booked its place in the final of England's senior One-day tournament with a five-run win over Kent.
